How to use the result
Hen-day production tells you the percentage of live hens that produced an egg today. For example, 430 eggs from 500 live layers equals 86% hen-day production.
Do not judge one day alone. Keep a daily record of birds alive, eggs collected, feed used and mortality. Our poultry record-keeping guide shows the basic records worth keeping.
If production begins falling, check water, feed, heat, lighting, health, stress and flock age before adding supplements or medication. The layer egg-production troubleshooting guide walks through those checks in farmer language.
Important: This calculator records what your flock produced. It does not diagnose why production is high or low, and it does not use one universal target because expected production changes with flock age and management.
